I was lucky enough to cover the red carpet arrivals for the premiere of the new Star Wars for the Lorraine show. I’m no Star Wars super-fan (I met a few and their dedication is a full-time job) but being there brought me back to childhood with a thrilling bump.
Dozens of Stormtroopers marched outside the Leicester Square cinema in London – joined by Chewbacca, C3PO and new character, a charming wee robot called BB8. I chatted to some of the movie’s stars including Harrison Ford who is back as Han Solo and took it all in his stride. Mark Hammil reprises his role as Luke Skywalker and his excitement was infectious. He never quite reached the dizzy heights of his Star Wars fame – and he was thrilled to be back.
For fans, the good news is that even the crankiest of critics have been blown away by the seventh instalment. With the original cast (including Chewy and CP30 who were charming to interview) back, it’s a return to form after the past three disappointing prequels. And if you’re going to go to the pictures, I can’t think of a film that offers a better cinematic experience or more of an adventure than this galactic ride. May the force be with you.
